Open Tpf Files

First and foremost.......

On a Windows PC, right-click the file, click 'Properties', then look under “Type of File.” On a Mac computer, right-click the file, click “More Info,” then look under “Kind”. Tip:If it’s the TPF file extension, it probably falls under the Data Files type, so any program used for Data Files should open your TPF file. I like everything about it.except for the hair texture. I can make another tpf with my hair texture. I just run Texmod, open the moded outfit, open my moded hair tpf, and run the game. Now I will have the moded outfit with my hair texture. The last tpf you open in Texmod will always overwrite any texture in the preceding tpf files.

This thread is intended to help you modify an existing tpf created by another user.......It is not intended to hijack other peoples work without their permission
If you modify someone elses work you must get their permission to release the modified tpf on this or any other site......SITE RULES!!!!!
If you get the original authors permission to release the modified tpf......the proper thing to do is give this person credit for their work
However what you do with the modified tpf on your own computer is your business.......after all for most of us this is The United States of America and STILL a free country
Tools needed can be downloaded here.......http://ffmadden.wikia.com/wiki/Files
Texmod
Tpf extract with gui
Notepad
Tip: I create a folder in My Documents/Madden NFL 08 Folder named Texmod and this is where I place all of my tpf's with some of them in subfolders......I then also create a folder named TPF extract and then unzip the TPF extract with gui app in it. Once you start modifying tpf's it can get out of hand real quick and take up alot of data......so keeping your textures organized is helpful
Step 1: Load the Tpf extract and navigate to the tpf you want to modify......after it is loaded select etract and a window will pop up.......Right click and select New Folder and then name the New folder so you will know what it is.......then select the folder and the textures will be placed in the folder
Step 2: Navigate to the folder you created and you will see the textures (You might have to right click and select view/large icons) and a log file named texmod.......double click the log and it will open up and typically be in this format......

Now what you have to do is create a directory so with Texmod you can re-create the tpf by adding the location to the file......Mine would look like this......yours would have your Username instead of FFXIV

You basically have to copy and paste the Texmodout directory to each line of the log.......This is tedious but worth it in the end......
Once you have this done save and exit the log
Step 3: The log file you created will not work for creating a new tpf as it is........If you have ever logged a texture with texmod then navigate to that folder and copy the Texmod.log file and then paste it in the folder with the textures and texmod files are.......It shouldnt overwrite the original because they are not the same......The original that you previously modified will be all lower case (texmod) and the regular one will have the T capitalized (Texmod)
Open the new one right click and delete anything that is logged in it.......then open the original and right click/select all/ and copy......then paste the contents to the new Texmod log
Important step: After pasting the information in the new log the cursor will be blinking just below the last line......If there is any space between the border and the cursor hit backspace until the cursor is against the border......This will help keep the location from not lining up correctly if you choose to log more textures into the tpf.......Typically I will move the blinking cursor to the beginning of the first row in the log and then save and exit
If any of the lines are out of order or have a space......Texmod will not include the textures in the tpf.......blank spaces are logged as well.....thats why it is important to delete them
Step 4: Now that you have everything ready........ go ahead and rename the folder to Out and then right click and send to compressed zip folder.......after the file is compressed rename the file to something relevant. Example: Bears.Ori.tpf.zip

Open Tpf Files

You now have the original tpf with textures and log available to modify anytime you like and you saved some space on your hard drive as well and when you need it you just simply copy and paste into your Texmod folder......then unzip the file.
Go ahead and move the folder you named Out to your Texmod folder
The example I used previously is the Baylor stadium tpf from the Heisman mod.......The problem I ran into with it is sometimes the creator use's a hot pink background to create transparency with Texmod......But I use a program called Umod and this color shows up.......so when I load up the Baylor stadium tpf the crowd looks like they are all holding up a hot pink paper.......so to fix this I loaded the crowd textures in Gimp 2.8 and cleared the hot pink background from the texture and then with Texmod I create a new Baylor.V2.tpf......
Example 2: In this case I wanted to create my own load tpf using all sorts of textures from different users....... so what I do is extract all of their textures into separate folders and then merge all of the textures together in one folder.......If all the textures are the same format PNG,BMP,etc then when you merge the folders a dialogue box will popup telling you that there is already a file by the same name do you want to copy and replace or name the file (2) if there is any of the same addresses in the folder........ you then would decide which texture you want to keep. Now you would modify and merge the log files together in one folder and then with Texmod you can now create a new tpf
Example 3: This time I want to modify a stadium tpf by replacing the existing field with Pick 6 trueturf........So what I do is extract the tpf as normal and modify the log file.......Then at the bottom of the existing field texture is the address (Example: Mainapp.exe.0004321) You would click on this area and then copy the address........navigate to the location you have the trueturf template and click the name area and select paste. You have renamed the true turf texture and now you can copy the texture and then paste it into the folder you are modifying and a dialogue box should popup and you will choose copy and replace.......Now you can create a new stadium tpf with the updated field with Texmod
I want to close out this tut with this.......There is nothing wrong with modifying someone else's tpfs for your own personal use......it is wrong to release the modified tpf without permission from the original author.......I don't agree with this policy because it slows progress and hurts the site. However I respect the rule and will abide by it. I have modified (upgraded) hundreds of tpf's that will never be seen because of this rule and that hurts the site and progress.
I feel the policy should be........if you modify someones tpf's you must give them credit if you release the tpf.......and that if you don't want anyone to modify your tpf then don't share it.......When you log textures from a game and then modify and release them......you are doing so without permission from example EA Sports.......so what is the difference.
If you think that people that work for EA Sports or there developers don't frequent this site.......you would be incorrect......They use people like us for ideas for their next version of the game and that is why they allow us to modify the game in the first place......
I am sorry to anyone I may have offended with my comments but I have a right to my opinion just like you have a right to yours
Feel free to ask questions if you don't understand something or cuss me out if it makes you feel better........you won't be the first or the last
Good luck modding
