Need assistance with your Payne air conditioner troubleshooting? Our expert AC technicians recommend the following troubleshooting tips as a first step if you find that your Payne air conditioner is not working as it should. The following steps should solve many of the most common AC issues. However, if you’re still experiencing problems, we recommend getting in touch with a professional!
- If the compressor and condenser fan do not run on your Payne air conditioner, check that a circuit breaker has not been tripped. Check at the panel for any tripped breakers and reset them if necessary.
- The next step in your Payne air conditioner troubleshooting should be a visual inspection of the indoor and outdoor equipment. Look at all wiring and connections to see if they are secure. Look for signs of damage, water leakage and other physical signs that your unit needs professional repair.
- Remove the air filter and check for blockage. A very dirty air filter will shorten the life of your air conditioner, and can even cause it to shut off as a result of reduced airflow.
- Ensure that your thermostat is turned from “heat” mode to “cool” mode. Once in “cool” mode, turn down the current temperature by 5 degrees to see if this causes your air conditioner to turn on.
- Check the blower motor in your furnace to ensure it is running. The furnace switch should be in the “on” position even when your system is in cooling mode.

I am just a regular home owner, but find out if your moms lineset needs tobe replaced.
Each person who gives you a quote, find out if lineset replacement is part
of the
Payne Ac Units Parts
quote and is necessary. Before I got my unit, I got 4 quotes. 1 guy never mentioned nor included
the lineset.
1 guy after questioning him several times about a lineset, he said
'absolutely not, its
not needed'. 1 guy told me that upfront but he was too expensive and too
snotty.
The last guy told me upfront that a new lineset was needed. Appearently mine
needed
to be changed since it was too small.
It is my understanding (i am just a home owner) that if your lineset is old,
maybe in the
15-20 year range (a guess), it may be the wrong size for todays systems. If
it is the
wrong size they can still hook it up the system will not work as efficient
as it should.
Everyone also told me to replace the compressor and blower in pairs to have
a matching system.
And the last i might add is make sure what they sell you is going to fit
into the
space it will be. 2 out of the 4 quotes I got did not even measure. My
neighbors
contractor brought in a system that would not fit in his closet so he had to
pay the added cost of putting it in the attic.
just my thoughts..
